mad enough to post for the first time since march 9
scott6103: the blog doesn't get political very often. but tonight, there's no other option. going to war under false pretenses is one thing. but when your primetime news conference leads fox to pre-empt a new episode of the o.c....you've gone too far.

speaking of the o.c.
today, one of my coworkers insulted the show. i almost happy slapped him.

there ya go
that's what you've been missing for the past month and a half. disappointing, huh? now you know what it's like to wake up and be me every day.

a countdown show that helps people
vh1's 100 most wanted bodies offers viewers workout tips in between shots of shirtless men and bikini-clad women. yeah. cause that's why viewers are watching this show. for workout tips.

oh, and don't even get me started on the show's rankings.

sign that i need help
i was watching video clips on 41's website (no...that's not the sign) and thought i recognized a guy in one of the stories. it was a package on wheel of fortune auditions for big 12 week, and the guy in question was wearing a mizzou t-shirt. it made perfect sense. i might know him. i thought...and i thought...and i thought. about an hour later, it hit me. the guy looked like nick from road rules x-treme. i didn't know the guy. he just looked like a guy on a reality show that i watched.

is this the o.c. or saved by the bell?
seriously josh shwartz. locked in the mall overnight? are they trying to get concert tickets, too?

marketing slogan that i wish would catch on
Cracklin' Oat Bran: Soaks Up Milk Like a Maxi Pad

if you still have a soul, i beseech you, stop reading now
i'm thinking of turning schiavo into a verb. eventually, it will mean something to the effect of "put me out of my misery." ex. I'm having a horrible day. Somebody schiavo me! but for now, it means "to string along." ex. another delay? i wish they would stop schiavoing me.

the blog is back, bitches
at least for one day.

reason #241 i hate the today show
north korea announces it has nuclear weapons, and katie and matt lead with charles and camilla. to be fair, so did gma and whatever that show is on cbs. but that doesn't make it right. if everyone else jumped off a bridge...actually, i'd be okay with katie couric jumping off a bridge.

we're co-workers, not friends
that's what i want to tell this guy at work. he seems to think we're buddies. he even suggested we see the new star wars movie together. he obviously knows me well.

so bad. so good
have you seen mtv's my super sweet 16? if not, i highly suggest you check it out. it follows spoiled brats as they plan their 16th birthday parties. this week's episode featured a guy, and he was a giant tool. he walked around with his collar flipped up all the time. (while you're at it, why not tuck in your shirt in the front and leave it untucked in back, asswipe?) plus, he bought clothes for girls just so they'd come to his party, and his dad hired professional female dancers to entertain the kids. ricockulous.

kmiz has that effect on people

scott61o.c.: the blog
i tried not to buy the first season of the o.c. on dvd. i really did. i told myself i already owned too many dvds i hadn't watched yet. but in the end, i had two best buy gift cards. and every time i thought about using them to buy something else, it just didn't feel right.

so far, i've watched episodes 1 (without the commentary) and 2. i also watched the less-than-stellar bonus featurettes. i never saw the summer season, so the first several episodes are all "new to me," to borrow a phrase from nbc. it's funny to see how the characters have changed. i'm also not sure the show would have hooked me, had i tuned in from the beginning.

as for tonight's episode, i have a few observations:
•judging by the music, when ryan and lindsay makeout, they travel back in time. that's neat.
•i'm not sad to see d.j. go. when you combine the actor who played him with mischa barton, you get 1/8 of an actor. plus, he wore a tie with a short-sleeved dress shirt.
•whatever happened to marissa's little sister? why didn't she get to be in the family photo?
•tonight's ending was lame. and really, sorta 80s-sitcom-ish. plus, who invited zach to kirsten and sandy's anniversary party. and is it just me, or did it look like the cast was going to sing Kumbya at the end?

dumbest thing i've done recently
left my oven on for 24 hours straight

dumbest person to call the newsroom recently
me: kgw
caller: yeah, i've been watching your coverage of the tsunami. and you know that earthqauke in california...
me to self: huh?
caller: the one that's supposed to happen inland and break california off from nevada...
me to self: oh, sweet jesus.
caller: i think there will be a lot more casualties from that. you should look into that.
me: yeah, that's an idea. i'll pass it along. thanks for calling.

dumbest thing heard in a commercial for the bachelorette
"i will chew him up like a piece of garbage"
who chews garbage?

holiday loose ends
•many thanks to those who sent me christmas cards. (as much as i love the holiday, i've never gotten around to mailing holiday greetings. maybe it's because i'm not what one might call "organized.") Awards go to Kate (for most creative) and Paul (for latest—Dec. 30th)...no award for the earliest, mainly because I can't remember who won. Maral, where's your card?
•Best Christmas Gift (tie): Digital camera and 41 News travel mug. Also of note: a tape of KCTV's 50th anniversary special. It aired over the summer, but my mother was too cheap to ever mail it and just put it in my stocking instead.

easy listening. tough choices.
did you know john tesh has a radio show? he does. and it's quite good. i'm not ashamed to admit it. he doesn't play his songs, just general easy listening music. and he also shares "intelligence for your life" (a bunch of helpful hints for things like getting a raise or getting a better night's sleep).

in seattle, the same radio station was home to john tesh and delilah. in fact, john tesh followed delilah's show, so if you went to bed at the right time, you could hear a little bit of both. but here in portland, i'm forced to choose because the two shows air at the same time on different stations. life's just not fair.
